I turn strategy into plans people can deliver.

I’m Andrew Rowantree, a strategic and operational leader who takes programmes from the first plan to measured impact, coordinating the workstreams and bringing the people with them.

The thread

Plan the work. Bring people with you. Prove the impact.

My career has been spent where strategy has to become something real for people: in classrooms, year groups, leadership teams and the professional development of other teachers.

The remit kept widening, from a single year group to a team of ten led from the senior leadership team, but the job stayed recognisable: turn the objective into a practical plan, coordinate the workstreams, use the evidence, and leave people more capable than I found them.

The story · 2010 to now

Four schools. A widening remit.

From leading a year group, to building a technology programme and training teachers across Milton Keynes, to leading a team of ten on a senior leadership team, and now leading intervention and improvement.

Each chapter sets out the role I came in as, the strands of work I led, and where I went next. Between and alongside them: a term reviewing provision at Deanshanger, and facilitating UCL’s early-career programme.

How I work

Leadership with evidence behind it.

The work crosses strategy, people, data and day-to-day delivery. These are the four moves I come back to, whatever the setting.

  1. 01. Turn strategy into a plan

Translate strategic objectives into a structured improvement plan: clear priorities, the right people and resources, and workstreams coordinated so delivery holds up under competing demands.

  2. 02. Bring people with you

Engage colleagues, leaders, partners and end users early. Adapt delivery to the people it serves while holding to the standard the programme requires.

  3. 03. Let the evidence lead

Use performance data and qualitative insight to set targets, allocate resources and evaluate impact, then feed what is learned back into the next cycle.

  4. 04. Grow capability

Coach, mentor and train so the improvement outlasts the project: trainee teachers, early-career professionals and experienced colleagues alike.
